ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Sean Joy Rosario Cabanig is an undergraduate student here at CSULB. Currently in her fifth year, Cabanig is getting her degree in the Metals program. She was born in Los Angeles but lives in Long Beach. Chabanig loves cats, reading, and playing video games.
Cabanig likes to work with metals such as copper and silver. Each piece has a different texture and context, a very interesting idea. Although the colors were quite bland, she made up for it in detail.
Cabanig mentioned that her mood heavily influences her work; if she is feeling down one day it will definitely have an effect on a piece. She specifically mentioned that her sense of humor plays a role in her artwork.
I enjoyed Cabanig’s work because of the materials used and the driving idea behind it all. The penis sculptures did catch me off guard, admittedly, and distracted me from the beauty of all the art. It was more than just your average metal jewelry exhibit which was refreshing.
